How to Send a Nitro Gift from Inside Discord
According to the Nitro Gifting article, gifts can be purchased from direct messages, group chats, server channels, and the Nitro page. Gifts bought from a DM on desktop or browser can be customized with a card design, a personal note, a soundboard effect, and emoji confetti; that customization is not available in group chats and server channels.
- Open Discord and go to the DM, group chat, or channel where you want to send the gift.
- Select the gift icon to the right of the text box.
- When the Gift Nitro window appears, choose the plan and duration you want to send, then press Next.
- If your account has no saved payment method, add one before continuing.
- Review the gift summary, then press Buy Gift to complete the purchase.
There is one important exception: Nitro Basic cannot be gifted through DMs, group chats, or server channels. To gift Nitro Basic on desktop or browser, open the Nitro page through User Settings and select Nitro. On mobile, tap your avatar, go to User Settings, then choose Nitro Gifting.
Discord also notes that some gifts are available at localized prices. Depending on the user's region, you may be able to pay in local currency, but the price will still be equivalent to the USD price. How to Claim a Nitro Gift as the Recipient
The claiming steps come from the Claiming a Nitro Gift FAQ. Discord's most important warning: make sure you are logged in to the correct Discord account before claiming, because if a gift is accidentally claimed on the wrong account, Discord cannot provide another code or transfer the gift.
- If the gift link arrived in a DM or a server, press the Open gift button attached to the gift.
- A confirmation window appears; press Accept gift to apply the gift to your account.
- If the link arrived by email or another platform, click it or paste it into your browser, log in to Discord (or register if you have no account), double-check the account name shown, then press I accept.
- Once accepted, Discord redirects you to the Subscriptions tab in User Settings, where the gifted subscription shows as active.
If you are unsure whether a gift has already been claimed, open the link in a browser. A claimed gift shows a message saying it has already been claimed, and inside Discord the button turns into a grayed-out Claimed label.
When the Recipient Already Has Nitro: Account Credit
This is the most common question, and the answer is in the same FAQ. If you accept a gift while your subscription is still running, or the gift differs from your current plan, the gifted subscription is added to your account as Account Credit rather than lost. You can see the credit in User Settings under the Subscriptions tab.
The credit is only used once your current subscription expires or is removed and you activate the matching subscription on the desktop or browser version of Discord. Discord stresses that Account Credit can only be used for desktop or browser subscriptions and cannot be applied to subscriptions bought through Google Play or the iOS App Store.
So before gifting a friend who already subscribes, ask how they subscribe. If they subscribe through the App Store or Google Play, your gift will sit as credit that only becomes usable after they switch to a desktop or browser subscription.
Gift Inventory: Links Anyone Can Claim and How to Revoke Them
The Nitro Gifting article explains that a gift shared in a group chat or server channel can be claimed by anyone. If the gift is meant for one person, send the private link to the recipient through a DM. Once a gift has been claimed by another user, it cannot be switched to a different account, and Discord's support team cannot refund a claimed gift.
Unclaimed gifts can be accessed at any time through User Settings under Gift Inventory. There you can revoke a gift link and generate a new one, for example if the old link was accidentally posted in the wrong channel. Only unclaimed gifts are listed in the inventory; claimed gifts no longer appear. Discord does not state a link expiry in that article, so assume a link stays live until it is claimed or revoked.
Nitro Gift Refunds Under Discord's Policy
Discord's refund policy states that refunds for the purchases it describes are one-time refunds per purchase category unless stated otherwise. If you have previously received a refund for any Nitro subscription, you are not eligible for another Nitro subscription refund later. Discord does sell prepaid gift cards, but according to the Discord Gift Cards article they are currently available only at select online retailers in the United States, are redeemed at discord.com/redeem or through Billing in the desktop app, and the balance cannot be transferred between accounts. For users in Indonesia, there are three realistic routes. First, buy directly on Discord with a card or payment method accepted in your region. Second, subscribe through Google Play or the App Store on your phone, where payment follows that store's wallet, so it can generally be funded with a Google Play gift card or an Apple gift card. Third, for gifts, keep using the official gifting feature inside Discord so the link you send genuinely comes from Discord.
Remember that app store subscriptions have consequences: Account Credit from a gift cannot be applied to Google Play or App Store subscriptions, and Discord says managing a subscription (cancelling or switching plans) must be done from the same type of device where it was purchased. Common Nitro Gift Scams
- "Free Nitro" links from strangers. Discord does not hand out free Nitro through random DMs. These links usually lead to a fake login page that steals credentials.
- Look-alike domains. Check the spelling of the address before logging in. A real gift can be opened through the Open gift button inside Discord without retyping your password on another site.
- Sellers asking you to send a gift to a specific account first. Once a gift is claimed by another account, it cannot be pulled back and cannot be refunded.
- Discord gift card codes offered to users outside the United States. Because Discord's prepaid cards are currently US-only, an offer of Discord gift card codes for Indonesia deserves suspicion.
- Bots or accounts asking you to scan a login QR code. Scanning a login QR code hands your account access to someone else.
