What Is Norton 360?

Norton 360 is a Gen Digital device protection suite that combines antivirus, ransomware protection, a VPN, Password Manager, Cloud Backup, and dark web monitoring in a single subscription. According to Wikipedia, Symantec first released the Norton brand suite in 2006, and it was revived in 2019.

The company behind Norton has changed names several times. It was Symantec, then NortonLifeLock, and is now Gen Digital, as recorded in the Norton 360 article on Wikipedia. That is why the official site shows the Gen name in its copyright line while the product keeps the Norton brand.

What sets a suite like this apart from a plain antivirus is its scope. Beyond scanning files, Norton adds a VPN for encrypted connections, a password manager, and alerts when your personal data shows up on the dark web. For gamers, those extras can replace several separate subscriptions, but they can also overlap with dedicated services you already use, like the ones in our NordVPN guide and 1Password guide.

Official Norton Prices Right Now

The prices below come from the Norton 360 Deluxe page and the Norton 360 for Gamers page on Norton's United States store, checked on 30 September 2026. The first-year price is a promotional price, and later years are billed at the renewal price.

PlanDevicesFirst yearRenewal per year
Norton 360 Standard3US$39.99US$94.99
Norton 360 Deluxe5US$49.99US$124.99
Norton 360 for Gamers3US$44.99US$119.99

These figures are yearly charges in US dollars from the American Norton store. Prices, currency, and available plans can differ when you open a Norton store from another country, so always check the amount at checkout before you pay. The official Norton page also states that renewal prices can change.

Norton also sells LifeLock bundles with identity protection, credit monitoring, and stolen funds reimbursement. Features such as Social Security alerts and credit bureau reports are built around the American financial system, so their value for readers outside the United States is limited. For most gamers, the sensible choice sits among the three plans in the table.

Tax also matters when you buy a digital subscription from abroad. We explain how it works in our guide to VAT on digital products. Compare the total you actually pay, not the promotional per-month figure printed on the plan card.

Standard vs Deluxe vs for Gamers

All three plans share the same core features; the difference is the device count and the extras. Diagram: Digidang team, built from the Norton product pages.

According to the Norton comparison table, every 360 plan includes antivirus, malware, ransomware, and hacking protection, Scam Protection, a VPN, Dark Web Monitoring, Password Manager, and Deepfake Protection. Even the cheapest plan covers the core protection.

Deluxe suits families, since it covers 5 devices and includes Parental Control to limit screen time and the sites children can open, according to the Deluxe page. Standard is enough for one person with a PC, a laptop, and a phone. The gamer edition targets players who want their PC left alone while they play.

Keep in mind that some features are not available on every system. Norton states that Cloud Backup only runs on Windows, and that Parental Control and Cloud Backup are not supported on macOS. If most of your devices are Macs, those extras carry less weight.

Norton for Gamers, What Does It Add?

Norton 360 for Gamers uses the same protection base as the other plans and then adds features built for play sessions. Game Optimizer detects running games and feeds them more processor power while background apps are held back. Full-Screen Detection and Notification Optimization keep pop-ups from interrupting a match.

This edition also offers Dark Web Monitoring for gamer tags, which watches for your game account names in leaked data. The product page says the VPN helps protect against DDoS attacks and doxxing. That makes sense because a VPN hides your home IP address, but a VPN still does not fix every connection problem, as we tested in our NordVPN guide.

Four steps of the Norton for Gamers trial, from signing up with a payment method, the trial, the paid plan, to automatic renewal
The free trial still asks for a card, and the paid plan starts on its own unless you cancel. Diagram: Digidang team, built from the Norton for Gamers product page.

There is a 30-day free trial, but read the terms. The for Gamers page states that a payment method is required, and when the trial ends a paid subscription starts and renews at US$119.99 per year unless cancelled. Set a reminder a few days before day 30.

Are the gamer features a must? Not always. If your PC is used mostly for games and you do not need Parental Control, the gamer edition makes sense. If one subscription has to protect many family devices, Deluxe with 5 devices is more efficient.

Does Antivirus Make Games Lag?

Modern antivirus runs in the background, so its effect on games is usually small, but a full scan that starts mid-match can still be felt. That is why Norton for Gamers includes a Full-Screen Detection Mode to minimize interruptions while you play, according to the for Gamers page. Switching antivirus off entirely is not a safe fix.

One thing people often forget: Windows already has built-in protection. According to Microsoft Support, the Windows Security app includes Microsoft Defender Antivirus with real-time protection plus Windows Firewall. So the real question is not whether you have antivirus, but whether Norton's extra features are worth the price for you. If your copy of Windows is not activated with a genuine license, sort that out first with our Windows license guide.

If games stutter after installing an antivirus, check the scan schedule and make sure only one real-time antivirus is active. Two real-time antivirus tools running together can scan each other and slow the system down. Lag that comes from the network rather than the PC is usually solved faster by choosing the right internet plan for gaming.

Automatic Renewal and Refund Rules

Summary of four Norton refund rules for annual plans, annual renewals, monthly plans, and third-party purchases
Annual and monthly refund windows differ a lot, so choose your billing cycle deliberately. Diagram: Digidang team, built from the Cancellation and Refund Policy on norton.com.

Norton subscriptions renew automatically unless the renewal is cancelled before billing. According to the Norton subscription details, annual renewals can be billed up to 35 days before the renewal date, and annual subscribers get an email with the renewal price beforehand. Do not ignore that email.

On refunds, the Norton Cancellation and Refund Policy separates two kinds of subscription. Annual plans are fully refundable if you ask within 60 days of purchase, and each annual renewal charge is also fully refundable within 60 days of being charged. Monthly plans are only refundable within 14 days of the first purchase, and later monthly charges are not refundable.

The same policy says these terms apply to purchases made directly from Norton. If you bought or are billed through a third party, such as an app store, service provider, or reseller, different cancellation and refund terms may apply. We summarize common digital refund patterns in our digital game refund guide.

Norton also has a Virus Protection Promise. According to the Virus Protection Promise page, if Norton experts cannot remove a virus from your device, you are entitled to a refund based on the price paid for the current term. You need an automatically renewing device security subscription with antivirus, and the refund does not cover damage caused by the virus.

When Norton Is Worth It and When It Is Not

Norton makes the most sense if you will actually use its extras. Think of a family with several laptops and a child's phone that needs Parental Control, or a player who has no VPN or password manager yet and wants everything in one app. In those cases, a single Deluxe bill can be simpler than three separate subscriptions.

On the other hand, Norton is less efficient if you already pay for your own VPN and password manager, or only have one gaming PC used for play. In that situation, much of what you pay for in Norton goes unused. The built-in Windows protection plus safe habits is often enough, with a light second-opinion scanner as a complement.

One more consideration is the second-year price. Work out the two-year cost, meaning the first-year price plus the renewal price, and compare it with the alternatives. If the gap feels heavy, schedule a reminder to review it before the renewal date arrives.

How to Buy Norton Safely

The simplest route is buying directly on the official site, because the full 60-day refund rules apply. If you buy a license code from a store, check three things. First, the plan name and device count, since Standard, Deluxe, and for Gamers differ. Second, the term length and whether the code works on an existing Norton account. Third, the store's replacement policy if the code fails, because Norton refunds for third-party purchases follow the seller's terms.

Our catalog carries Norton 360 Deluxe for 1 year on 5 devices, matching what the official Deluxe page lists. For comparison, there is also the lighter Malwarebytes Premium and Kaspersky Total Security. We compare Norton with Malwarebytes in our Malwarebytes guide.

Avoid accounts or codes sold far below a reasonable price without a clear origin. We explain how to judge a seller before paying in our safe digital shopping tips and how to check a genuine digital code. Once active, protect the email tied to your Norton account with two-step verification, since that email controls your subscription and refunds.

Finally, antivirus is only one layer. The habits that matter most stay the same: download games and mods from official sources as described in our Steam Download guide, do not click gift links on Discord at random as we warn in our Discord Nitro Gift guide, and never reuse passwords.
